Why Do You Need A Snoring Mask And When To Get One?

A snoring mask may be needed if you have a serious snoring problem and do not want to take a snoring surgery to get rid of the snoring. Among non surgical anti snoring solutions, a snore mask (also known as a Nasal CPAP) is one of the best. Nasal CPAP stands for Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure and can only be bough after an otorhinolaryngological exam. This exam will determine things like: how frequent breathing issues do you have during the night, if you experience headaches all day, the level of disturbance you make will you sleep.

For this examination, all your medical background will be used. The doctor wil ask you questions about your lifestyle, if you have any cardiovascular problems and if you are taking medications and what are they. Your airways will be checked to see how your breathing is and the exam will also determine your CPAP pressure (this will be done during a period of sleep). The final results will show what kind of anti snoring treatment you need: a snoring mask or Nasal CPAP, snoring surgery or other anti snoring solutions.

The stop snoring air mask is usually used as an anti snoring solution and it also helps treat sleep apnea problems. The snoring mask blows air on an upper airway which is responsible for preventing the airway tissues from stopping or hardening your breathing while you sleep. While you wear this snoring mask, its pressure is continuous and consistent. What happens during your sleep if you have sleep apnea is that your experience short periods of time when your tongue and throat are actually blocking the upper airway while you are sleeping. This causes breathing interruptions from a few seconds up to over a minute.

Fortunately, you have a great friend that helps you when this happens. His name is your brain and he quickly weak you up when he sees a drop in the oxygen level. When you wake up you automatically take a breath of air which solves the problem. According to the level of your sleep apnea this experience can repeat itself for several times in one single night.

The otorhinolaryngological examination will determine, among others, the severity of you sleep apnea and this depends on the number of breathing interruptions you have per night, as stated bellow:

- having under 5 interruptions in 60 minutes means a normal sleep apnea
- between 5 and 15 breathing issues in 60 minutes means a mild sleep apnea
- between 15-30 breathing stops in 60 minutes means a moderate sleep apnea
- over 30 breathing interruptions in under 1 hour means a severe sleep apnea

According to the level of your sleep apnea, you will have to make some lifestyle changes like losing weight or quitting smoking, if that's the case for you. Also, exercising will become a part of your life as it helps against sleep apnea.

Usually, sleep apnea is experiences more in men than women, and mostly men over 30 have it. A stop snoring air mask will probably be a good anti snoring solution and anti sleep apnea treatment for you, when you experience some of the following sleep apnea symptoms:

- your snoring level is high and the people around your can not get quality rest because of it
- you experience sleepiness during the day
- you experience low interest in sex and even impotence
- you feel tired when you wake up and even feel a headache
- you have a low level of concentration during the day
- your snoring wakes you up during the night
- you feel irritable the next day

You should also know that individuals that have a higher level of sleep apnea are likely to also experience high blood pressure and are more likely than others to have strokes or heart attacks, and the risk of having a car accident also increases.

Sleep apnea causes

Among some of the causes for sleep apnea, some illnesses like a large goitre or a low thyroid hormone, large tonsils which obstruct the airways, a 5 to 10 kgs over the normal weight increases sleep apnea. Also, any allergies, infections or even colds "help" sleep apnea as do sleeping pills. Another so called "friend" of sleep apnea is alcohol, and it is recommended that you avoid drinking any sort of alcohol near to the time you go to bed, as it can help relax your throat muscles which stops the brain from waking you up like it was supposed to when you have breathing interruptions.

The snoring mask

The snoring mask or the stop snoring air mask represents a mask that must be worn over your mouth and nose. Although for some, the snoring mask might be somehow uncomfortable, it has a quick effect and will control your snoring. This sleeping mask is not going to make you stop snoring, as it only has a temporary effect and does not cure snoring permanently. The Nasal CPAP is not a cure to stop snoring, but a snoring treatment, that if used correctly and daily can and will most likely eliminate the need of snoring surgery (except the more severe cases).

You have to take count that before the snoring mask was invented, any sleep apnea or snoring treatment required a tracheotomy, which makes a temporary opening in your windpipe. So, thank you, snoring mask! Other methods for treating sleep apnea and snoring are UPPP (vulopalatopharyngoplasty), LAUP (Laser Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty). But, again, the simplest way to help against sleep apnea and snoring is a Nasal CPAP or a snoring mask.

When choosing an anti snore mask (snoring mask), you should take the one that is the most comfortable. There are many manufacturers who offer custom made masks so you can have one specially designed for you. As an alternative to the mask that prevents snoring, a set of nasal pillows can be used (where the doctor approves it). The nasal pillows are 2 little caps that must be inserted into the nostrils. People that have a moustache or a beard usually use them, because the facial hair can and will reduce a lot the effects of the snoring mask. You must also pay attention to some of the following aspects when using a breathing mask for snoring/snoring mask:

- too much skin oil will loosen the contact between your face and the snoring mask, so avoid putting too much
- if you have dry skin you should use skin moisturizers made specifically for Nasal CPAP (snoring mask) purposes.

These are the most important aspects that you must know about a stop snoring  masks. Always remember that before buying any anti snoring mask you should always do a prior research on stop snoring forums and see what snoring masks are better and also look for places where you can find such a snoring mask cheaper.
